My Goals
This is one of a number of websites that I am using to reflect different aspects of my thinking and writing
I have a main website – Isaiah504.org – and sites covering my church work, and my preaching/teaching work. This site is intended to cover a broader spectrum of ideas and, I hope, be of interest to more than the Christian community.
My Background
I am a husband a and father of four (grown up) children. I have had a career as a Merchant Banker and a change (mid-life) to a ministry in the Church of England. But, throughout, I have had a passion for wisdom and understanding
Whatever career I have been involved with I have never entirely fitted in; always somehow standing on the edge looking in, questioning, wondering. I am not alone in that, but there is a certain freedom in not entirely being bound by any group identity – freedom to see, to question and to think.
Core Values
It’s always hard to pinpoint core values. But, even when life is about growth and change, some things seem to change less, or just deepen
- Truth/Reality: Truth may always lie a bit beyond our grasp, but it is out there and we can move towards it
- Meaning: Perhaps it is a human construct, but we can't live without it
- People: People matter (individuals, communities and generations). Any pursuit of Truth & Meaning has to have the value of all people at its heart.
- Transcendence: Though People matter, we are part of something bigger and more universal - you might call it God, or transcendent reality, but humanity seems made to connect with it.
